  • Smithville Lake Access

    Smithville Lake Access

    Fishing, public docks, boat ramps, boating, parking lots, disc golf and other outdoor activities remain accessible at beautiful Smithville Lake, following the guidelines of the CCPHC. Trails and trailhead restrooms remain open. Marina slipholders continue to have access to their boat slip and property. Camp Branch Marina will continue to provide boat fueling services, but the bait shop will be closed to the public. Smithville Lake is waiting for you!

    Wander Back in Time...

    Join us at one of Clay County's many historic sites. Spend an afternoon with Jesse James, go back in time to a one-room schoolhouse or visit the oldest continuously occupied home turned museum in Clay County! You can even host your wedding at the Historic Mt. Gilead Church built in 1833. Plan your adventure back in time... just stop by the Historic Sites and Museums section of our new tourism website then get out there and explore!

The Clay County Public Health Center's emergency order has been updated, effective February 21st, 2021. Restaurants, bars, and taverns may resume operating according to their permitted hours. Events are no longer required to submit a mitigation plan and there is no capacity limit on gathering size. You can read the full order here. 

Please note that the Clay County Public Health Center's emergency orders still require facemasks inside all public spaces. Face coverings or masks must be worn over the nose and mouth by all visitors and staff inside any Clay County building. Social distancing rules always apply

Some of Clay County's services, including the Assessor and Collector's Office, will remain available online or by phone. Smithville Lake and Clay County Parks information can be found here.

On June 3rd, the Clay County Commission honored and recognized the quick response of three Clay County Rangers that led to a life saved. Corporal Sean Benjamin, Ranger Melissa Mahoney, and Ranger Jeremy Monaco responded to the aide of a 55-year-old woman who was struck in the chest by a bolt of lightning while fishing in a remote area at Smithville Lake. For those that offered their thoughts and prayers, we are happy to report that the woman is home and recovering. We would like to thank our Ranger Division for their service and commitment to our citizens and park patrons. Read more and see the news story...

On May 6th, Clay County honored Older Americans Month with a proclamation. Clay County has over 40,000 residents age 60 and above; we are fortunate to have such a large and active senior association with numerous services and resources for residents. Only 55 Missouri counties have levy funds to support seniors. Read more...
