Building Commission

The Clay County Building Commission is constituted by the Missouri State Revised Statutes (RSMo) Chapter 64, more specifically 64.170 through and including 64.205.

The main duty of the Building Commission is to hold public hearings to discuss and ultimately recommend either approval or denial of the County's electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building codes pursuant to the aforementioned sections of RSMo.

The BC consists of a total of 5 members made up of residents and taxpayers within Clay County, one of whom shall be a member of the County Commission. Staff support is provided by the Clay County Planning and Zoning Department.

The Building Commission typically only meets as needed when the review of newly released codes becomes necessary. Per RSMo 64.180, the County Commission must hold 3 public hearings prior to adopting the regulations recommended by the Building Commission. The Building Commission meets in the Commission Hearing Room, 3rd Floor, Administration Building at One Courthouse Square, Liberty, MO 64068. This schedule may vary on occasion, so the public is encouraged to verify the date and time of upcoming Building Commission meetings by contacting the Clay County Planning and Zoning Department at 816-407-3380 or Email Planning and Zoning Department.
